a favorite: biscuit bedding

I have loved biscuit bedding for a while now. Bailey has an amazing eye, and has designed and curated a great place for bedding and home decor. Emi's crib sheet is biscuit and it is wonderful! Holds up to lots of washing, soft and the perfect pattern!

design: a nursery

It was a dream come true to put together a nursery for my sweet girl.  I wanted the room to be fun, not too baby and just a touch of a boho feel. It is a small room, which I actually really love for a nursery, makes it instantly cozy.  The room is so hard to photograph because of its size and lack of natural light.  The only thing I would change is painting the walls white (and trust me I have thought about doing it despite a pending move!).

The rug is a turkish kilim found on eBay, I knew the rug would be the source of most of the rooms color.  I was also able to start the design of the room with some wonderful heirlooms: the rocking chair, horse and crib were all mine! They were such classic pieces that I knew they would fit perfect.  I painted the jenny lind crib in a high gloss black to give it a bit of a modern look.

The wall for her dresser and changing table is very short. When she has a bigger room I would like to get her a bigger dresser.  So, until then I just went with an ikea favorite. I added the lack bookcase on the side to store changing table essentials. The gallery wall was a fun way for me to add some personal touches to her room.

madewell jeans - my fave! (image source)

+ I think i added every new arrival from j crew's new baby collection to my wishlist. this, this and this are my faves. oh and this !

+ This was all over Facebook yesterday, but it is too good to risk missing.  enjoy!

+ I love this home tour, sally king benedict is one of my favorite artists!

+ I am a fan of ikea's broken lines rug. I think it is a classic for a great price that can be used in many different rooms.  world market's price point for an 8x10 is even better!

+ I made these "healthier" cookies for a super bowl party last week.  they actually were really good, especially straight out of the oven.  I would suggest a full cup of oatmeal and sea salt on top.

+ Tried on this skirt last week at madewell. it will definitely be making its way into my closet, very versatile.

big change

If you follow along on instagram then you may have seen that Emi and I drove down to Orlando this past weekend to say goodbye to my childhood home and "help" my parents move into their new home.  Really, I helped more by giving ideas for some updates to help make their current furniture fit into their more modern and european home. This is going to be a lot of fun...

It was very sweet to watch my girl explore the home I grew up in.  I had a very "father of the bride" moment. I pray that the new family will have wonderful memories in this home like I do.

I love their new home.  It is in the most precious neighborhood and I love the architecture and style of the home.  She has great taste, but as you can see her last home was very classic.  With a little bit of tweaking, reupholstering etc. everything will fit right in!

The pictures are dark, sorry. They were taken after a run on my last evening there. But, you can get the idea of what we are working with.

 so the plan:

recover the current wingbacks in a great big buffalo check. new pillows, leaning towards these from pottery barn, cowhide lumbar OKL, and two new pillows for the wingbacks from OKL.  new oushak rug with muted greys, found a great seller on etsy. paint their current coffee table high gloss dark navy (farrow and ball hague blue).

My favorite part of the whole project is bound to be the ginger jar collection that will go on top of the secretary in the formal living room.

And, we still have an eat in kitchen plan to share. It is going to be oh so good.  stay tuned...

spaces

Does everyone feel their home is a constant work in progress?  I secretly love the feeling of never being "done" with making it our home.  I go through stages where I get inspired and will knock out a bunch of cheap diys, re-arranging, buying something new that has long been on my wishlist. Then there are the stages where I feel super content and don't want to change a thing.  We are in the market for a move, but I want to remember this sweet place that we have been newlyweds and new parents.  So, here are some of my favorite (as is) spaces around our abode.  (all iPhone images)

edits J A N U A R Y

I am a sucker for spring and fall, the seasons that bring welcomed change. I am absolutely one of those that when the holidays are over I am ready for warmer temps. thankfully, Charleston winters are short and mild.  These edits are my way of indulging in a little spring freshening! Perking up interiors after holiday decor has been put away, and closet updates that can be layered now with winter essentials and worn later solo.

guest room e-design

the best part about being "back at it" is offering e-design services.  i am a firm believer in creating spaces that are welcoming, inviting and unique.  and i fully believe that can be done on any budget.   this is a guest room re-design that is using the existing furniture, passed down from her paternal grandmother.  it has some great pieces but they are in terrible condition and need to be refinished.  so a fresh coat of charcoal paint and new gold hardware will bring them back to life!  a little mini gallery wall will also be included.
